A woman sat in my exam room a few years back with an eight-month-old Goldendoodle named Biscuit, and she was near tears — not about anything medical, but about her sofa. The most common pushback I get is generational: “But I specifically bought an F1B, and I was told those don’t shed.” F1B doodles (a first-generation doodle bred back to a Poodle) do carry, on average, a higher proportion of Poodle-derived DNA, so the odds of inheriting the furnished, low-shed combination go up. That’s a real statistical trend, and I won’t pretend otherwise. But “higher odds” is not “guaranteed,” and I’ve examined enough individual F1B dogs with open coats and real shedding to know the generation label describes a probability, not a certainty for the dog sitting in front of you.
